The Medium-Range Endurance Craft (MREC) is an approximately 140 ft craft described by USSOCOM as one of a family of combatant craft (including the CCM) that they wish to acquire. Described in BAA-06-MMOC, this vessel is intended as:
- A multi-functional craft capable of infiltration, extraction, and maritime interdiction operations (MIO).
- Large payload capacity with the capability to launch and recover a SEAL Delivery Vehicle or combatant craft up to 40 ft LOA.
- Operating endurance of 4-7 days.
- Operating range of 900+ nm at speeds greater than 25 knots.
- Able to support 22 embarked personnel.
- Low multi-spectral signatures for reduced observability.
- Self defense weapons and countermeasures.
Hodgdon Defense Composites has secured $1 million in federal funding from the FY08 defense budget to scale the technical lessons learned in the Mk V.1 program to address the MREC, and develop a mature design and processing plan for the MREC. Hodgdon Defense Composites is currently developing the workplan for this effort, and expects to be under contract for the MREC design in the second quarter of 2008.
