As one followup to MAKO, Hodgdon Defense Composites has refined the design of the Mk V.1 to meet the coastal patrol requirements of foreign navies. This Coastal Patrol Boat improves on the Mk V.1 design by increasing the vessel shear (the height between the keel and boat deck) by 24 inches, adding significant headroom belowdecks.
The Mk V.1 has a relatively low shear, allowing it to be transported on a C-5 Galaxy aircraft. Unfortunately, this requirement has led to poor headroom belowdecks, with limited space for crew accommodations. Since foreign navies typically don't specify air transportability as a vessel requirement, the increased shear in Hodgdon Defense Composites's Coastal Patrol Boat should not be a problem for foreign military sales, and the increased accommodation space will be attractive to navies who wish to operate the boat for extended periods at sea.
Hodgdon Defense Composites is currently working with the U.S. Navy's Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program - PMS-325F - and has requested approval by the State Department to market the Coastal Patrol Boat, which is expected within 30 of this proposal submission. Initial response by potential foreign navies has been positive, and Hodgdon Defense Composites is currently pursuing potential contracts for this vessel.
